This September, Gallery MAR is delighted to present **Sleeping in the Forest**, an extraordinary new exhibition by **Matt Flint**. The Artist Reception is September 5th from 6 to 9 pm. Borrowing its title from Mary Oliver's beloved poem, the exhibition celebrates the transformative power of nature and the quiet moments that invite us to slow down, become present, and rediscover wonder. These paintings encourage us to see the world—and ourselves—with fresh eyes. Flint's newest body of work is among his most ambitious to date. Richly layered with texture, history, mythology, and personal discovery, each painting reveals itself over time. Every brushstroke, revision, and mark becomes part of its story, creating works that feel both ancient and entirely contemporary. Having spent the past several years immersed in Italy, Flint began incorporating fragments of handwritten letters and postcards he discovered in the cellar of his Italian home. These mysterious passages drift through the paintings like memories, adding another layer of history and intrigue while connecting the work to themes of place, time, and human experience. Throughout the collection, Matt Flint draws inspiration from Impressionism, medieval art, Expressionism, Symbolism, and Roman and Greek mythology, yet the paintings never feel academic.
